I've been listening to Nate's work for many years with much wonder and admiration. I was humbled when the opportunity arose for us to record together. We spent a day in the studio working through a few of my scores, improvising, and talking about music and life: abstraction, concrete, reference, vocabulary, history, legacy, teachers, experience, mystery. Nate and I have both studied the classical, experimental, and jazz traditions for many years and worked hard to build the physical, mental, and creative capacity to explore the spaces between and among those traditions in our own way. It's such a pleasure to work with Nate, who has a unique voice, but is also willing to put aside his ego and focus his entire attention on the situation at hand, making the sum even greater than the parts.
