Travis composed this beautiful piece for me on request. I asked him for a chorale, to highlight the lyrical, sustained side of marimba playing. By using very soft mallets and employing a variety of rolling techniques we can get very close to a true sustain, especially when we tap into the gorgeous "hum" of the instrument.

Travis's piece also leaves the performer space to improvise. In one section he only gives one the soprano and bass lines and leaves the inner voices up to interpretation. In another section he only composed the bass line and chord changes. It's a lovely piece--one of my favorites to play--and it brings out the more delicate, peaceful side of the marimba.
