about

‘What The Waves Were Always Saying’ for solo marimba takes its title from a chapter title out of Charles Dickens’ great novel ‘Dombey and Son’. The piece gives the performer certain musical figures which the performer is asked to accent in their own fashion, other figuers, runs etc. are introduced to the performer to insert at his/her own discretion. Basically, the piece provides the performer with the raw material and a few instructions and the performer is expected to create a piece out of these materials. The waves are there for you to splash in, how you choose to splash in them is your own decision.
